The demands of the drivers’ union are quite substantial, but there are some real hurdles for which they have not been fully met. Let us try to understand them by comparing each demand:
Pension after 60 years
How much pension will be given to drivers in the unorganised sector every month?
The government does not yet have such data on who is an active driver and who is not.
Rest sheds and toilets after 100 km
Land and officials need to be appointed for this project.
Administrative permissions, budget and security arrangements are needed to make it operational. Hence, it cannot be met immediately.
Death insurance – ₹20 lakh
This will require a change in the government insurance policy
Problem in identifying who is eligible and who is not.
Obstacles in including auto drivers in the support board:
A new labour department needs to be included, which may require statutory orders and new laws.
. Cancellation of police vehicle check rights
Constraint:
This could be a threat to law and order and security.
If the police are not given the right, then inappropriate activities may increase.
