You may be a victim of a new variant of covid-19
The infection of a new type of covid-19 is continuously spreading in many countries of the world, including India. In fact, the infection is increasing due to the new variant of Covid-19 JN.1 and its subtypes like LF.7 and NB.1.8.
In Asia, especially in Singapore and Hong Kong, the cases of Covid-19 have increased rapidly. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 257 active cases have been registered in India as of May 19, 2025, which is the highest in the last one year.
How dangerous is the JN.1 variant of corona- The JN.1 variant is a sub-variant of Omicron BA.2.86. It was first seen in August 2023. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, this type has one or two additional mutations, which make it more contagious than other types.
This type spreads through airborne droplets, close contact in crowded places and contaminated surfaces. Most of the new cases have been reported in Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
Who is the new variant dangerous for – The symptoms of the JN.1 variant are similar to the Delta and Omicron variants of COVID-19, but some new symptoms have also appeared. According to experts, ignoring these symptoms can be dangerous.
In such a situation, people with weak immune systems, the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease have to take special precautions.
What are the symptoms of the new variant – The new variant of Corona JN.1 causes a persistent dry cough, which lasts for a few days. Apart from this, food is not tasted and smelled. Infected people suffer from severe headaches that do not respond to common medications. In addition, runny nose, nasal congestion, fatigue, and sore throat are also symptoms of the new type of Covid.
