A 35-year-old Sikh man, Gurpreet Singh, was shot dead by police in Los Angeles, USA. The incident took place on the morning of July 13, and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has released the footage, which has gone viral on various social media platforms.
According to the incident, Gurpreet Singh was performing Gatka (a traditional Sikh martial art) in a crowded street at Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard near the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. He was seen wielding a two-foot-long machete (khand) in the middle of the road. Following complaints from locals, the police reached the spot and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. However, Gurpreet allegedly did not obey the order and ran towards the police with the machete.
According to the police’s CCTV footage, Gurpreet was seen performing Gatka on the road wearing a blue turban, a vest and shorts. He was also seen cutting his tongue with his weapon. Police officials claimed that Gurpreet left his vehicle in the middle of the road, was driving the weapon and hit the police vehicle. He eventually tried to attack the police, which led to the police firing. Gurpreet was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, but he died there.
