A shocking incident has come to light in Damadi area near Gumugad Chack under Dhamnagar police station in Bhadrak district. It is alleged that a couple, driven by poverty, sold their 4-year-old daughter for Rs 15,000. According to reports, Nutua Munda and his wife Kali Munda, who live in Damadi, have confessed to giving their 4-year-old daughter Ranu Munda to a man from Balasore. The family has three children, while two daughters and an elder son are at home. The incident of giving the little girl to someone else for money has become a topic of discussion in the local area. Nutua Munda’s original home is in Kolai village under Bhadrak block, and it is reported that they have been living in Damadi for about a year and running the family. Last Friday, two men from Balasore came to a puja program at a neighboring house. There was information that they discussed the child there. The couple said that they had taken Rs 10,000 from the child in Dhamnagar Bazaar yesterday and had taken Rs 5,000 earlier. Out of this money, the mother Kali Munda bought shoes and food worth Rs 1,000 and gave the rest to a neighbor to keep. After the incident came to light, there was a stir in the locality and hundreds of people reached Damaadi to surround the father and mother. Locals have demanded that the police and the administration immediately investigate the matter on suspicion of child protection and human trafficking.
